![]() I've disassembled the head of my 1999 M52B25 out of my 323is and remember it being very easy to compress the upper timing chain tensioner in order to insert the Alan Key, but this time around it seems impossible to get it to compress. No matter how hard I push down on the upper timing chain tensioner, I can't get it to compress. ![]() Next step is to compress the upper timing chain tensioner and insert the Alan Key to keep it compressed so I can fully remove the timing gears and chain. Problem #1: I took of the timing case to reveal the intake and exhaust cam timing gears, and cracked the bolts loose with my E-torx Set. I'm working on the motor on an engine stand and I've removed all the accessories on the motor (intake, water pump, thermostat housing, alternator, etc.) So at the moment it's just the top end and bottom end of the motor that's left to disassemble. I'm still pretty new to mechanics and I'm learning on the go, so simpler language would be appreciated so I can understand better. I've ran into some problems though while disassembling that I was hoping you guys would be able to help me on and help me understand better. I'll be fully disassembling the motor all the way to the pistons so I'll be left with fully bare block to clean and rebuild. ![]() I've bought myself an M50B25 to drop into my 99 323is E36 with a blown head.
